DanceWorks New York City - In Another Life... by Em Wein

This piece is dedicated to the people we have lost in life. We can't control how long we have together, but we can be there for one another in the time that we do have.

Beyond the Screen

Beyond the Screen was the winner of the NACRE Dance Group's So You Think You Can Choreograph competition in 2023. This piece is a story in two parts. The first part is about the different ways we create meaning in life, featuring various duets and solos to display the paths we all choose. After a brief interlude, the second part of this dance is a commentary on our relationship to the news and the lack of empathy that can come from the disconnect presented on a small screen.

To Regrow: ESYDE 2024

A piece about the confusion and frustrations of being a young person growing up in a world of climate change. This piece was choreographed by Em Bae-Wein for the Empire State Youth Dance Ensemble with NACRE Dance Group.

DS Equinox: With Pride

This piece presents the process of coming to terms with sexuality. Comparing being in the closet to being underwater, when one comes out it is like being able to breathe for the first time.

Since I've Been Loving You

Even in moments of clarity, passions can consume you. In creating this piece, I was inspired by setting classical and contemporary movements to classic rock music.

Thank you to Infra and everyone who has supported me in bringing this piece to life.

Song: Since I’ve Been Loving You (by Led Zeppelin)

DS Equinox: Out

As a choreography collaboration with Abigail Stevenson, this piece explores the desire to leave toxic relationships and finding the strength to follow through.

Seven Deadly Sins

Inspired by Renaissance paintings, this piece depicts each of the Seven Deadly Sins in a series of duets. In order of duet appearance: Pride, Lust, Gluttony, Greed and Sloth (as a quartet), Envy, and Wrath.

Song: It Will Come Back (by Hozier)

Run

RUN is a piece inspired by a nightmare I had in which this song accompanied an ominous chase in through the woods. This dance embodies the nightmare of running from something unknown and the haunting feeling one can get from a dark dream.

Song: Run (by Hozier)

The Cult

A piece I choreographed exploring the idea of loss of identity.

“You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask.” -Jim Morrison

Song: Cold Cold Cold (by Cage the Elephant)

Maybe We're Meant to be Alone

A dance that shows that despite how alone one feels, there will always be people willing to help.

Song: Maybe We’re Meant to be Alone (by Bad Suns)
